Based at East Durham College farm, Paul together with Farm Manager Keith Cook and his team are pursuing high animal welfare and sustainability goals, producing pigs on a home-fed, three-week system. Around 200 students work alongside the farm and teaching staff. The college enjoys visits each week from the farming industry, the wider education sector, local and regional groups. The unit was recently featured by Pig World Magazine: ‘Inspiring and Educating the Next Generation.’ This is a research-ready resource for anyone wanting to improve pig production and a template for anyone wanting to start a pig unit as part of an integrated farm.
