Julian Sparrey – Livetec Systems

Julian is an Agricultural Engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in livestock systems, disease control and contingency planning. Since 2001, he has specialised in outbreak response and biosecurity design, co-founding Livetec Systems in 2010 alongside Gordon Samet. Known for his practical, engineering-led approach, Julian has developed high-welfare disease control solutions, structural biosecurity systems and emergency response frameworks used across the livestock sector. His work spans abattoir design, humane slaughter technologies, animal transport and large-scale outbreak management. Julian has collaborated with major livestock businesses, government agencies and veterinary institutions to design systems that improve preparedness and operational resilience during disease events. This hands-on experience has given him a deep understanding of how outbreaks develop and how risk can be reduced through better planning, infrastructure and decision-making. He continues to advise producers on strengthening biosecurity and preparing for emerging threats across both pig and poultry sectors.
