Dr Gina Caplen, DEFRA.
Gina completed her PhD in amperometric immunosensors while part of the livestock engineering group at Silsoe Research Institute and then moved over to the field of farm animal welfare in 2006. Prior to taking up her current position at Defra in 2021 she spent 15 years working as an academic within the Animal Behaviour and Welfare group at Bristol University. Here she undertook research on various projects that linked physiology with behaviour in meat chickens, laying hens, pigs and dairy cattle. Until very recently Gina was the industry link officer for the Animal Welfare Research Network and chaired their stakeholder advisory board.
